2000年10月29日，在南京大學捐資設(shè)立楊振寧獎學金時，楊振寧表示，雖然我父親是大學教授，但因為通貨膨脹，家里很窮，生活很艱苦，是獎學金幫我度過了難關(guān)。近幾年多次在大陸訪問，看到不少青年學生因家境困難而影響學業(yè)，感到很傷心，所以就有了這么個想法。楊振寧說
