輔時(shí)：適應(yīng)時(shí)勢(shì)行事。違時(shí)：違背時(shí)勢(shì)行事。當(dāng)時(shí)：適時(shí)。圣人行事能夠適應(yīng)時(shí)勢(shì)，不能違背時(shí)勢(shì)。聰明人善于謀劃，不如利用合適的時(shí)機(jī)。
圣人成事，依靠的是自身的“埶”，而非向外苛求細(xì)察外物。“埶”是專注于自身、由自己掌控的；“察”是分散精力、向外追逐外物細(xì)節(jié)的。
歷史中的優(yōu)點(diǎn)似乎有三種，一種是來自氣候和國家的純粹地理位置，一種是來自政府形式和人民性格，一種是來自那些更細(xì)致的哲學(xué)原則和道德，可以稱為哲學(xué)的推薦。
